CRYSTAL RIVER -- Six students will end their high school years tonight at the West Coast Christian School graduation ceremony. Michael Herbert, Shannon Snyder, Gary Pringle, Laree Daniel, Larry Houck and Danielle Hancock are the entire senior class at the small private school.

They will be joined by one more student for the ceremony. Homeschooled student Chris Thompson adopted WCCS for extracurricular activities and will join his contemporaries for their final walk.

The students have attended WCCS for varying lengths of time, ranging from a month to 14 years. The longest-attending student is Gary, 18.

His mother, Marlene Pringle, is the principal, so he has been going to the school since it was at a different location and was called Red Level Christian Academy. It was later changed to River Gardens Christian School before it changed once more to West Coast.

Gary has no immediate plans to continue his education but says he plans to do some training with Florida Power Corp. Right now he does golf course maintenance. He is the son of Jeff and Marlene Pringle.

Laree, 18, came to WCCS when she was in the 10th grade. She hopes to attend Central Florida Community College and is uncertain about a major but says she likes science. She is engaged to Gary and says they plan to get married after college. Laree is the daughter of Candace Weaver.

Shannon, 18, started at WCCS in the middle of the 11th grade. She came from Dunnellon High School. "I wanted to come here because I wanted the small-school atmosphere," she said. "I wanted to be part of a family." She intends to go to Saint Leo University and study elementary education. Shannon is the daughter of Cherie and John Rollen of Yankeetown.

Michael, 18, has attend WCCS since seventh grade, when he came from Dunnellon Christian School. He has plans to continue his education. "I'm going to do two years at CFCC and then go to a university," he said. He is interested in studying computers. He works at a local Internet provider. Michael is the son of Pamela Herbert of Dunnellon.

Danielle, 18, came to WCCS just this semester. "I've adjusted somewhat," she said. She plans to go to Withlacoochee Technical Institute for nursing assistant certification and then move on to CFCC or another college to become a registered nurse.

"I had to watch my grandmother die and it was hard. I had to take care of her and hospice came in, and ever since then I've wanted to be a nurse," she said. Danielle is the daughter of Michelle and Mark Mileti of Homosassa and Tomya and Gary Hancock of Jacksonville, Ala.

Larry, 18, has been at the school for two years. He came to WCCS from Dunnellon High School.

He doesn't have immediate plans after graduating but says he is interested in working at Florida Power. He currently does tree work. Larry is the nephew of Sara and John Wade of Inglis.

Chris, 17, has been homeschooled for four years. Before that he attended WCCS and has enjoyed the school's basketball team and other school activities.

He has been taking dual enrollment courses at CFCC and says he is close to his associate's degree.

He plans to attend a university and expressed some interest in engineering or FBI work.

Chris is the son of Phillip and Kimberly Thompson.

The West Coast Christian School graduation will be held at 2 p.m. today in the First Methodist Church of Crystal River's former sanctuary at the school.
