The central and east parts of the county could get a hospital and an upscale subdivision, depending on decisions Tuesday by the County Commission.

The commission will review a request by owners of the Wiregrass Ranch in Wesley Chapel to rezone 50 acres east of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard to build central Pasco County's first hospital.

East Pasco Medical Center, based in Zephyrhills, wants to build the hospital on the ranch in about five years, pending approval of the state Agency for Health Care Administration.

Rezoning maps show the western edge of the property touching Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. The southern boundary is about a quarter-mile north of a future eastward extension of State Road 56, 11/2 miles north of County Line Road.

Porter wants the commissioners to rezone 50 acres from agricultural to commercial.

A deal between the Porters and the medical center awaits the rezoning decision. The commission meets at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Historic County Courthouse in Dade City.

The commission will also review a request to rezone 33 acres of property in Land O'Lakes for an upscale subdivision called Curve Lake Reserve.

Developer David Maltby wants to build 36 homes between $300,000 and $500,000 along the U.S. 41 corridor. Its draw will be its closeness to Curve Lake, a 13-acre lake southeast of Caliente Boulevard and U.S. 41.

Curve Lake Reserve would join Caliente nudist resort, the Preserve at Wilderness Lake and Sunset Lakes as upscale residential developments in the area.
