SEOUL, South Korea -- U.S. defender Steve Cherundolo, who injured his right knee during practice last weekend, probably will be out for the rest of the tournament.

Cherundolo, who plays for Hannover 96 in Germany, was an alternate when the 23-man roster was announced April 22.

But midfielder Chris Armas tore a knee ligament during a friendly May12, and defender Greg Vanney, who was to take Armas' spot, partially tore a knee ligament four days later during another friendly.

The team said Cherundolo has a deep bone bruise to his right knee. He did not play in the United States' first two games but appeared in seven of 10 qualifiers.

CELEBRATION FALLOUT: Speed-skater Apolo Anton Ohno said he isn't surprised South Koreans still carry a grudge over his gold medal at the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. He just wishes they would improve their form.

When Ahn Jung-Hwan scored the tying goal against the United States on Monday, he celebrated by swinging his arms like a speed skater, calling it an "Ohno ceremony." Several teammates joined in.

South Koreans remain bitter over Ohno winning after Kim Dong Sung was disqualified.

Ohno said it was "unfortunate that they're lingering on something that wasn't even my decision."

But he said Ahn needs practice.

"I was looking at the guy, and he doesn't even have good technique," Ohno said.

"He's got to sit lower, keep his shoulder straight."

WANTING MORE: CONCACAF chief Jack Warner said he'll request an extra berth at the next World Cup based on 2002 performances. Mexico is 2-0-0, and the United States and Costa Rica are 1-0-1.
