Two Pinellas County athletes, Dixie Hollins' Kevin Marion and Largo's Chauncey Corbin, did well at the Golden West Invitational, held June 8 at California State University in Sacramento.

Marion, who set the state record in the long jump last month, finished second in the event with a leap of 24 feet. He was 23/4 feet behind the winner, I-Perfection Harris of Poly Prep in New York. In addition to the long jump, Marion also had a pair of sixth-place finishes in the 100 and 200 meters.

Corbin took fourth in the 110-meter hurdles, 0.29 seconds away from catching Miami Central's Bershawn Jackson for third.
