PET STORE OPENS: Petland has opened a 7,000-square-foot retail store in Town 'N Country at 7699 W Waters Ave. Customers can purchase puppies, kittens, freshwater fish and aquariums, hamsters, guinea pigs, ferrets, birds and pet supplies. Visitors also are welcome to play with animals in the store's puppy and kitten socialization room.

The store also lends out aquariums to public and private schools within 5 miles. It's part of a free community outreach program that also allows classes to tour the store and request a show-and-tell session in the classroom. Teachers also receive a 10 percent discount on merchandise.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays. For information, call 249-1170.
