Sixth-grader hit by car, but escapes injuryHOLIDAY -- A sixth-grader at Seven Springs Middle School was hit by a car -- but was uninjured -- Friday morning while crossing Mile Stretch Drive to wait for a school bus. The bus had not arrived at Mile Stretch Drive and Telogia Court in Holiday when the girl tried to cross Mile Stretch at 8:05 a.m., said Mike Park, transportation director for the Pasco County School District. He went to the scene after the accident. The girl, whom school officials would not name, lives off a local street north of Mile Stretch Drive and was supposed to wait on the north side of the road for the bus, Park said. Instead she tried to cross to the south side of the street to join her sister and some friends waiting there for the bus, Park said. "That's not what they are supposed to do," he said. Students are taught to wait on the side of the road and only cross after the bus arrives and stops traffic with its blinking lights and sign. Roni Sushko, principal at Seven Springs Middle School, confirmed the girl attends sixth grade there, but could not provide any more information. The girl was taken to a local hospital for observation. Florida Highway Patrol was investigating. The agency said the girl was not injured but offered no other details.
