Police suspect the robber might be responsible for three other holdups.

CLEARWATER -- A freckled man held up a Clearwater bank Monday morning, and detectives think he may have robbed three city banks in the past two weeks.

The robber held up the AmSouth Bank, 3021 Enterprise Road, about 10 a.m. Monday.

Police said the robber gave a note to a teller that demanded money. The robber got an undisclosed amount of cash before leaving the bank on foot. No weapon was seen. No one was injured.

Based on the robber's physical description and his methods, police think it may be the same man they think is responsible for a recent string of holdups, said police spokesman Wayne Shelor.

The series began on Oct. 21, when Colonial Bank on Sunset Point Road was robbed. The Teacher's Credit Union was robbed four days later. A Republic Bank on Missouri Avenue was robbed Thursday.

Witnesses have described the robber in previous holdups as having a pock-marked face and brown hair, but police said witnesses to the Monday morning robbery said he had a spray of freckles on his face and strawberry-blond hair.

The man is white, about 30 to 35 years old, about 5 feet 10 and 180 to 190 pounds. He was clean-shaven and wore a black T-shirt and blue jeans at the time of the Monday morning robbery, police said.

The man in the Thursday robbery wore blue jeans, a light-colored T-shirt and a baseball cap.

Detectives plan to check with surrounding police departments to see if they are investigating robberies with a similar-looking robber, Shelor said.
