Donald Phillips, of Hudson, tries to open the door of his pickup truck after it collided with a Jeep, in background, which subsequently hit a Pinellas County school bus Tuesday at County Road 39 and Belcher Road in Palm Harbor.

PALM HARBOR - A Palm Harbor woman was hurt Tuesday afternoon after a collision with a pickup truck knocked her Jeep Cherokee into a school bus waiting to make a turn, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the accident took place as Tami Lorene Grant of 1730 Arbor Drive S was crossing Belcher Road from west to east on County Road 39.

Grant's Jeep was broadsided by a northbound Dodge Ram driven by Donald Phillips of Hudson.

The Jeep then spun and struck the left front of a Pinellas County school bus stopped on CR 39. The bus was getting ready to turn right.

Only one student, 7-year-old Alisha Ewanos of Lake St. George Elementary School, was on the bus. She was unhurt.

Grant, however, was flown to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with injuries that troopers said were severe but not life-threatening. She was in serious condition Tuesday evening.

The accident occurred shortly before 4 p.m. and shut down northbound lanes of Belcher Road.

The highway patrol's investigation was continuing late Tuesday.
