NEIGHBORHOOD AWARDS: Nominations for the 2004 Neighborhood Recognition Awards are being accepted until 5 p.m. today by Hillsborough County. Programs that have occurred in the past 12 months may be entered in nine categories. Plaques will be awarded to winners at a luncheon on March 27. Call 272-5860 WRITERS GROUP: Anyone interested in writing genealogies for family history, biographies, charts, columns or newsletters is invited to the 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday meeting of the Genealogy Writer's Nest at Roman Tales, 209 N Kings Ave., Brandon. SILVERLINERS REUNION: The Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of Silverliners International will have a dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the home of Gail Keck in Palm Harbor. Silverliners are former flight attendants for Eastern Airlines. Call 671-3078 for directions.

POTTERY GUILD: People interested in starting a pottery guild plan to meet at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Holistic Center, 117 W Windhorst Road, Brandon. Call 689-7265.

LAWN CARE: Master gardener Harry Dalvine will present a seminar on lawn care at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Brandon Library, 619 Vonderburg Drive, Brandon. Call 273-3625 ext. 2.

GOOD NEIGHBOR AWARD: Special neighbors who go beyond being helpful can be nominated for the Lonnie Lea Napier Good Neighbor Award. Nominees are accepted until Wednesday. The award was established to honor Napier who lost his life after falling while trying to rescue a neighbor's cat from a tree. The award comes with a $2,000 prize to the neighborhood association and a plaque to the winner. MOAA MEETING: The Military Officers Association of America will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Community Center 1009 N Pebble Beach Blvd. Frank Suitor, director of the MacDill Air Force Base Outreach Program in Brandon, will be the guest speaker. Cost $10 Call 877-332-3016.

SEWING GUILD: The Brandon/East Bay Chapter of the American Sewing Guild will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Brandon Recreation Center, 502 E Sadie St., Brandon. Pat Bell will give a presentation on window treatments and cushions. Members should bring baby items to donate to charities. Call 655-9846.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Hillsborough County Family and Community Education members partner with Hillsborough County Cooperative Extension Service to bring research-based information to county residents. Volunteers speak in their community about programs emphasizing family and environmental issues. To become a volunteer, contact 744-5519, ext. 143. ONLINE KENNEL: Animals brought to the Hillsborough County shelter on Falkenburg Road will be photographed and information plus photo will be entered into a shelter computer. Every hour the information will be sent to Pet Harbor, a non-profit Web site. Pets available for adoption are listed at www.hillsboroughcounty.org./animsvcs/kennel.html Call 744-5350.

FREE ID KITS: The Masons are providing free identification kits to parents and guardians. The Brandon Lodge provides child ID kits that include fingerprints, photos/video and hair samples.
