Blame homeowners for house's disrepair

Published March 26, 2004

In response to the letter from Terry and Karen Galvin of Sarasota on March 19:

We have lived in Brandon since 1974 and have seen many changes. Our daughter attended McLane Middle School and both our son and daughter graduated from Brandon High School. We have traveled on Victoria Street for many years. In the mid '70s, there was an old house in disrepair on that street. It is now the subject of much controversy.

Why did the family allow the home to become so derelict if they cared so much for it? Why is it now the taxpayer's problem? The Baptist Church is being blamed for the destruction of a home that should have been cared for a long time ago. Let us learn from the situation and take care of the things we have, rather than expecting others to care for them.
