Military news

Air Force Col. Elio J. Castellano, husband of Donna Castellano and son of Maria J. Castellano, both of St. Petersburg, recently returned from his third deployment to the Middle East and has been promoted to his current rank. He is an intelligence officer in the Reserves and is on active duty at MacDill Air Force Base.

Coast Guard Seaman Joshua L. Calderon, brother of Christina Calderon of Pinellas Park, has graduated from the Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J. He is a 1999 graduate of Northeast High School.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Derek M. Powell, son of Walter J. and Peggy C. Powell of Belleair Bluffs, has completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Powell is a 2000 graduate of Largo High School.

These two men have been deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom while assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 14, home base Jacksonville:

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Larry L. Dickie, son of Bonnie A. and Edward H. Dickie, of Seminole, and a 1979 graduate of Largo High School.

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Paul G. Lyons, son of Rosemary J. and Edward R. Lyons of St. Petersburg and a 1982 graduate of Largo High School.
