Survey asks: What's your fun?

TREASURE ISLAND - In a survey that should be mailed this week, residents are being asked, "What do you want to do tonight?"

The questions are designed to help city business leaders lure new shops and restaurants to the beach community and provide support for existing merchants.

"With all these new condominiums being developed, this is an accident waiting to happen if we let these people take off and shop elsewhere," said Mayor Mary Maloof, one of the authors of the survey.

Maloof and five business owners incorporated into the Treasure Island Partnership last year to find ways to promote business. The nonprofit corporation includes Ray Green, Ken Brown, Lori Rice, Ben Hetrick and Bill Edwards.

The survey was created by Green's Tampa based-firm, Paradigm Learning.

The colorful, folded questionnaire asks residents about their current eating and entertainment habits as well as their hopes for Treasure Island. The partnership wants to know how often residents and visitors dine out and what foods they prefer. It also asks what events should be planned in Treasure Island, including sports, sidewalk sales and festivals.

Completed surveys will be entered in a $500 drawing as a thank-you from the partnership.
