TAMPA - A veteran administrator and sociologist is the new College of Arts and Sciences dean at the University of South Florida.
John Skvoretz, 57, interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of South Carolina, will take over USF's largest college in February, provost Renu Khator said Wednesday.
"Dr. Skvoretz's dynamism, enthusiasm and creative vision won the admiration of faculty and staff," Khator said.
Skvoretz said he was "honored and excited" to join USF, where he will be paid $185,000 annually. He will run a college with 28 departments and more than 500 faculty members. At USC, Skvoretz worked as a professor, department chairman and associate dean. He earned two undergraduate degrees at Lehigh University, where he was elected Phi Beta Kappa. He was a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh, where he received a Ph.D in sociology.
