Here's the dirt on Earth Day in the Park, this Saturday

The fourth annual Earth Day in the Park, sponsored by the Seminole Tree Advisory Committee, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Seminole City Park, 7464 Ridge Road.
Activities will include a home and garden expo, children's arts and crafts, a bounce house, a fossil dig, face painting by the Uptown Clowns, the Seminole Community Library spelling bee, live oldies rock 'n' roll by the Suburban White Men, free Home Depot gift card raffles, and a barbecue lunch sponsored by the Seminole High School Marching Band Boosters.
The tree committee will give plants and mulch to the first 400 people who attend. For more information, call 391-8345.
The Earth Day Spelling Bee is open to fourth- and fifth-graders. Advance registration at the library is required. For information, call Marion or Karen at 394-6913.

Registration for the 21st annual Every Child a Swimmer Program will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. April 13 at the Seminole Recreation Center pool.
The free water survival program is open to children who are nonswimmers or uncomfortable in the water and are between the ages of 5 and 11.
The registration session will include a swimming test, so children should wear bathing suits. Registration is first-come, first-served for up to 100 children.
The program is sponsored by the Seminole Kiwanis Club, the Seminole Kiwanis Breakfast Club and the city. It is designed to teach children to swim at least 6 to 8 feet to safety, and includes tips about how to use life jackets and other water equipment.
The 12 lessons will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, ending May 5.
Two half-hour classes will be held each day, with a celebration on the last day, including hot dogs and T-shirts. Recreation center employees will help assure that the lessons go well.

The annual Bay Area Electric Boaters exhibition and competition will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Lake Seminole Park, Shelter 1. Admission is free to the public.
Competitions are open to all modelers with a nominal registration fee. The scale-model boat show will feature handcrafted boats, replicas of legendary warships, classic runabouts, paddle-wheelers, military vessels and tugboats. All modelers are welcome to display their work, built from kits or scratch, and enter their boats in the scale judging competitions.
Modelers will demonstrate their boats' special features, including realistic sounds, lights and fire monitors, and will navigate their radio-controlled boats through a marked course. Model tugboats will compete in towing, barge pushing and derelict rescue.

The Greater Seminole Area Chamber of Commerce has a number of activities planned this month:
Professional sales coach Birgit Zacher-Hanson, co-author of the new book Who Will Do What By When? will be the featured speaker at the Seminole Chamber of Commerce Leads Group meeting from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. April 13 at the TLC Building, Room 108, St. Petersburg College. Zacher-Hanson will discuss "interpersonal ineffectiveness" and ways to enhance team productivity. She has a master's in applied behavioral science from Johns Hopkins University and is affiliated with the Sandler Sales Institute. For more information, call the chamber at 392-3245.
A Tribute to Teachers Breakfast, sponsored by the chamber, will be held at 7:30 a.m. April 14 at Seminole Middle School. The chamber will honor a representative teacher and area schools that make outstanding contributions to children and youth. The event will also feature live entertainment and a digital presentation featuring the teachers and schools.
Ron Stone, associate superintendent for human resources and public affairs, will serve as master of ceremonies. The breakfast costs $8, plus $25 to sponsor a teacher. Seminole Middle School is at 8701 131st St. N. For reservations, call the chamber office at 392-3245.
The 2005 Seminole Stampede 5K, 10K and 1-mile race will be held April 16 at Walsingham Park. Late registration the day of the event begins at 7:20 a.m. The 1-mile run begins at 8 a.m.; the 5K and 10K runs begin at 8:20 a.m.
T-shirts will be given to those with race number stubs.
