Sex offender accused of violating probation

By Times Staff Writer
Published April 22, 2005

PORT RICHEY - A registered sex offender in Jasmine Lakes was arrested Tuesday for violating his probation by being alone with a 16-year-old boy.

The boy was working on an Eagle Scout project involving Unity Church of Port Richey. The sex offender, 42-year-old Jeffrey Allan Morris, is a member of the church who volunteered to act as a liaison between the Scout troop and the church, Department of Corrections spokeswoman Debbie Buchanan said.

On March 16 and 20, Morris spent time alone with the boy, which is a violation of a condition of Morris' probation, Buchanan said. There were no allegations of abuse.

Morris, 10439 Laburnum St., is on probation until 2009 for the lewd and lascivious molestation of a Pasco County girl under the age of 16 in 1989. His presence in Jasmine Lakes has made parents there uneasy, partly because of his home's proximity to a school bus stop.

In September 2000, he violated his probation under similar circumstances. Pasco sheriff's deputies said he took two children to Jasmine Lake. The children's mother was on the phone inside her house at the time, and there were no other adults present.
