The Christian Contractors Association is working with senior citizens in Hernando County to prepare for this year's hurricane season.
"This is a program that's going to let the public know what to do before hurricanes and disasters strike," Christian Contractors Pasco County director Roy Isley said. "It's better to know what to do before it than go fix it afterwards."
Volunteers will evaluate about 1,000 houses to determine whether their dwellers are prepared for the upcoming storms. They will survey nearby trees, gutters and other factors that seniors may overlook while preparing for hurricane season.
"The public usually reads all about this," Isley said. "But the older people, they just can't get out there and do it themselves."
Christian Contractors is assembling 20 volunteers who will immediately begin evaluating houses in Hernando County.
"I think it's going to help the public greatly," Isley said. "If this program goes well, we could be expanding to other counties."
Isley said they plan to target mobile home parks and communities heavily populated by seniors, such as Brookridge.
