Water rate vote may be April 2
LECANTO -- A proposal to increase the water rates for Rolling Oaks Utilities customers could come to a vote as early as April 2, the Citrus County Water and Wastewater Authority decided Monday. Under the proposed "inverted" rate system, customers would pay increasingly higher rates based on the amount of water they use. Some of the Beverly Hills residents at Monday's meeting questioned whether the utility would be unfairly penalizing large families by charging higher rates to homes that use more than 9,000 gallons of water per month, Utilities Regulatory Director Robert Knight said. Knight said the authority could vote on the proposal after its April 2 public hearing, or postpone a vote until May 7 if more time is needed to study the issue. If any rate changes are approved, Knight's office will notify all customers in writing before the new rates go into effect, he said.
