Egmont Shipping Channel

Forty-three feet deep and 40 miles long, the main shipping channel is a super-highway for humans and fish. More than a dozen variety of sportfish -- including grouper, king mackerel and sailfish -- can be caught along "The Ditch," as local anglers affectionately call it. They refer to the latest hot spot by the number of the nearest channel marker. Remember, if you fish the channel, keep an eye out for freighters. They might look as if they aren't moving fast until it's too late to get out of the way.
