Armed man robs Brooksville bankBy JAMIE MALERNEE © St. Petersburg Times, published May 15, 2001 BROOKSVILLE -- An armed man walked into a SunTrust Bank office Monday and escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash. According to police, the man entered the bank, at 385 S Broad St., south of downtown Brooksville, just after noon and told everyone to get down on the ground. Then, he walked up to a teller and told her to give him all of her money, which he put into a bag. He left the bank without hurting anyone. The man was last seen walking from the bank, although witnesses said an older-model gray car, possibly a station wagon, was seen speeding from the area close to the time of the robbery, Brooksville Police Detective Ron Woods said. It was the second time this year that the bank has been robbed. The last time, two masked men barged into the office Jan. 25 and escaped in a small, silver car with more than $1,500. Antonio K. Adkins, 25, of Spring Hill and Leonard L. Sampson, 32, of Brooksville were charged in connection with that robbery. Another accomplice was thought to be involved, but a third person has not been charged. Police said they had no suspects in Monday's robbery. The man was described as a husky-looking white person, between 5 feet 8 and 6 feet tall. He weighs about 185 pounds and has brown hair and blue eyes, authorities said. He was wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans, a baseball cap and a bandana tied around his face. He was carrying a black automatic handgun, Woods said.
