Series of historical profiles continues

INVERNESS -- Citrus County Historical Society president Dan Quick will continue his series, "Uncommon Acts of Common Man," at 2 p.m. today in the courtroom of the Old County Courthouse, 1 Courthouse Square. He will tell the story of Jonny Clem, a drummer boy at Chickamauga in September 1863, during the Civil War. Clem enlisted at 9 and retired at 64 as a major general. Quick has done considerable research about young people in the Civil War. A result is his series of stories about individuals involved. Members and the public are invited. Come early and visit the "Florida At War" exhibit.

Shopping center approved for 28 acres in Beverly Hills

LECANTO -- Developers received the county Planning and Development Review Board's approval Thursday to build the Golden Gate shopping center in Beverly Hills, on County Road 491 across from the Beverly Plaza Shopping Center. The 28-acre site will include a 105,775-square-foot strip mall anchored by a Kash n' Karry supermarket, several office buildings, a couple of restaurants and a 497-unit self-storage facility. The triangle-shaped property, owned by Asheville Partners Ltd. of Clearwater, is zoned for commercial and professional office uses.
